Christ's power over demons

MEMORY VERSE:

“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him. (Acts 10:38)

TEXT: Mark 5:1-13, 25-34; 7:24-37; 10:46-52

The anointing is the divine power of God given to believers in order that we may demonstrate the power of God among humanity so that glory may be given to God. Anointing is not for show. Mercy, compassion and desperate needs in the vineyard of God, always trigger of this demonstration of the power of God. Anointing is not a tangible gift that one can lock in a safe deposit in the bank. If you have it use it for the glory of God, if you do not use it, you can lose it. That is why our Lord Jesus Christ went about during His ministry to do good to mankind. You will not lose your anointing in Jesus name, Amen.

CHRIST’S AUTHORITY OVER DEMON—Mark 5:6-13

Our study of today about the authority of Jesus Christ over Demons, Diseases and Death is very important. I plead that we should please pay detail attention to the study and also meditate on the principles mention in the sturdy at our own time because these are the three “Ds” that are plaguing the world today.

In the Old Testament, nobody knew about the demonic and unclean spirit activities. Demonic possessed and unclean spirits problems were strange vocabularies in the Old Testament. Yes, there were people with mental problems then, but we do not know that it was the manifestation of demonic and unclean spirit activities. The demonic forces were having their field days throughout the Old Testament period without any control until Jesus Christ came to the rescue of mankind. “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” (I John 3:8) Jesus Christ is the light in the obscurity of the darkness of the world. And because He has authority over the demonic forces, the unclean spirits recognized Him, as the Son of the most High God.

There is an eye opener issue here: In v.7, the unclean spirit recognized Jesus Christ as the Son of the Most High God. If human being does not know our Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of the Most High God, it is the utmost spiritual ignorance because the demonic forces the archenemy of mankind knew Him and they reverence Him. “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” (James 2:19)

Still on verse 7 and 12, the unclean spirits prayed to Jesus Christ. Because to adjure in v.7, means to appeal to, to entreat earnestly, to plead. So the unclean spirit appealed and pleaded with Jesus Christ not to torment him—to leave him alone. And also besought which is the past tense of beseech, means—to beg, ask, call upon, plead with, solicit, implore, entreat, supplicate. The unclean spirits negotiated in prayer that Jesus Christ may send them to the swine. If the enemy of man can pray to Jesus Christ and their request granted, you have a strong reason to be earnestly seeking the face of God in your supplication unto the Heavenly King.

In Mark 7:25-30 the Syrophenician woman, an unbeliever, besought Jesus Christ in prayer to deliver her daughter from the oppression of unclean spirit. Although Jesus told her it is not right to take the bread of the children and cast it to dogs, yet because of her faith in the Lord, she was ready to settle for the children’s crumbs that fall from the Master’s table. The mercy and compassion of our Lord Jesus Christ that cut across the border of tribalism prevailed in her situation. Please note that in the spiritual realm, distance does not hinder the authority of Jesus Christ. Jesus said, the devil is gone out of thy daughter, when the woman got home, she found that the unclean spirit had departed from her.

CHRIST’S AUTHORITY OVER DISEASES AND DEATH

In the Old Testament, we knew about diseases, but no one heals instantaneously with the words of mouth alone like our Lord Jesus Christ. Up till now there is no permanent cure of various diseases that are plaguing mankind today. Our Pastor, a medical doctor by profession had confirmed several time here, that doctors only treat diseases but healing is exclusively in the hand of Almighty God. The faith of the woman with the issue of blood in the authority of Jesus Christ over diseases brought about the instantaneous healing she received. You will notice that in this scenario, Jesus did not pray for her, He did not lay His hands on her, but the woman received her healing because she believed. She said, “If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.” (Mark 5:28) The woman who touched Him knew that she had received something unique, The Lord who meets the needs of His children by His mercy and compassion knew that virtue had gone out from Him. Yes, a healing exchange had taken place for the glory of God. The same way the Lord will meet you at the point of your need in Jesus name, Amen.

We also knew about death of people in the Old Testament, even Prophet Elijah and Elisha that raised up the dead people, they labored, they explored and exhausted all their spiritual powers before they can bring the dead back to life. None of them could call forth a badly decomposed and stinking dead body like the way Lord Jesus Christ called out Lazarus from the grave. John 11:39, “Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days. vs44. And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

Only Jesus Christ was able to lay down His life in death on the Cross of Calvary for the sacrifice and redemption of our sin, and only Him was able to take His life back and live forever when He resurrected on the third day. John 10:17-18, “Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.”

THE RELEVANCE OF THIS STUDY

This study is not for head knowledge only, it is primarily to position the believers where they rightly belong before God as the elect of the Lord and princes and princesses of the Heavenly Father. If Jesus Christ is our Heavenly Father, then I can declare to you and assure you that we have a powerful connection to the Throne of Grace. We are saved to serve, and by the grace of Salvation, it means we possess the same authority as our Heavenly Father over demons, diseases and death.

“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” (Romans 8:16-17)

“And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.” …“And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.” (Mathew 10:1, 7-8) If this authority is available to the disciples of Jesus Christ, it is also available to the believers, but note that it is mainly executable in the field of evangelism.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. (John 14:12-14)

Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one. (Acts 5:15-16)

And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. (Acts 19:11-12)

Lastly, in Lamentation 3:22-24—“It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassion’s fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” The Lord’s mercy and His faithfulness will not fail in our lives, in Jesus name, Amen.
