Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping things that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, fill the death and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thin that moves on the earth. Genesis 1:26-28

The proposal in the Holy Communion of the God heads, in the council of God, preceded the creation of man. This spiritual union was not initially revealed at the beginning of creation but the clear hint of the union is obvious in the passage above. Take a second look at the phrases in the passage, “Let Us” “Our image” “Our likeness,” there is no doubt that you will strongly agree that these phrases are the language of more than one person in a joint strong relationship

Before we move on in this study we need to identify the Immortal Beings that were conversing in the passage above. Earlier in the book of Genesis 1:2-3, the scripture revealed, “The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. The Spirit of God is the divine power of God that brought the spoken word of God to manifestation at the point of creation. It was not until we discovered in the book of John that we knew that Jesus Christ, the Word of God was one of the God heads that was with God at the beginning of creation. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God… Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” (John 1:1-3)

In the brief explanation, we have discovered the three God heads at the beginning – God, The Word of God and the Spirit of God. The councils of God Heads comprised of three divine personalities but these divine entities manifest as one throughout the creation.

God Almighty the Father;
Jesus Christ the Word of God;
Holy Ghost the Spirit of God

The Word of God designed the intent of God the Father in a spoken words and the Spirit of God brought into manifestation the designed spoken word of God.

The Proposals are:-

1. Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;

2. Let them have dominion —

• over the fish of the sea,
• over the birds of the air,
• and over the cattle,
• over all the earth and
• over every creeping things that creeps on the earth

The three God-heads made two creative proposals to yield five purposes of dominionship. Obviously, the reason for the proposal was that the earth were at that moment filled with various creatures, but God cannot look up to any of the creatures to rule over all that He created. Every creature apart from man were spoken into existence by the word of God, but God first of all proposed the creation of man, dialogued about the intention then mold the man to the His desired shape of His own likeness and after that He commissioned man with His blessing to function according to the purposes of his creation.

It is also interesting to note that every man on the surface of the earth possesses the resemblance of the attributes of God the Father, attributes of the Son, Jesus Christ and attributes of the Holy Spirit because we are created in image of the three God Head.

The dictionary meaning of the word ‘image’ means – a reproduction of the form of a person or an object, especially a sculptured likeness. One that closely or exactly resembles another; a double. A personification of something specified. A vivid description or representation. A concrete representation.

Also the dictionary meaning of the word ‘likeness’ means – the state, quality, or fact of being like; resemblance. An imitative appearance; a semblance. A pictorial, graphic, or sculptured representation of something;

Often I always wonder why the scripture specified these two words to describe the clear intentions of how God proposed to create man. But when we pay attention to details we will also note with interest that man was the only creature that was created in the image of God. Although the word image and likeness seemed to be very close to each other in meaning and possibly could be used interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Image means a reproduction of the form of an object or its close proximity or an exact resemblance of an object or a vivid description of an object or its representation. But the word ‘likeness’ means: the state, quality or fact of being like an object. We can see the slight but strong and powerful different between the meaning of the two words. Again we can behold the mutual agreement between the God Heads that shaped man to the creative image of God according to the Scripture. God is a Spiritual Being but man is created in physical image of spiritual God and in all godly attributes. The physical man is a reflection of God’s glory. It is not only in our creative ability, divine will, intellect, emotion and righteousness that reflect the image of God in the creation of man, but also in holiness, love, kindness, forgiveness faithfulness and patience.

The dictionary meaning of the word ‘dominion’ is control or the exercise of control; rule or power to rule; sovereignty: A territory or sphere of influence or control; a realm. In other words, dominion is a derivative of the word ‘dominate.’ It means ability to exercise control or power to rule over a specified subject. In this case, the subject is all the creatures on the surface of the earth. The scope of control or rule may include territory or a realm. In the scripture passage the scope of dominion of man was clearly defined.

At creation of man, he was endowed with anointing to be in dominion over the fish of the sea – that is over all the product of the sea denoted by the fish, over the birds of air – that is all the creatures that fly in the air denoted by the birds, over the cattle – that is all the animals that live on earth denoted by the cattle, over every creeping things that includes lizards, snakes, insects, worms, or the microscopic bacteria, and over all the earth – that is all the products of the earth – which include vegetations, mineral resources and most importantly all realms that exists on the earth includes powers, the principalities, the rulers of darkness of this world and spiritual wickedness in the high places. In other words, man was created to lead and rule the earth. Both men and women have been given the ability and authority to exercise control over all other creatures of God.

The first test of dominion of man came up when God brought all the creatures to Adam and asked him to give name to them.

Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field… (Genesis 2:19-20)

When our spiritual eyes are opened we shall appreciate the wisdom of God in giving man the grace to give a name to every living creature under Heaven. We can also behold the faithfulness of God in this scenario in that, after God had given man dominion over all other creatures, he did not share the dominions with man by given names to all the creatures He put under the dominion of man. That was the reason why He brought the beast of the field and the bird of the air and other living creatures Adam to name them. It takes the anointing of God upon Adam to be able to accomplish this great feat by creating an identity for all the living creatures without duplicating the names and ability to remember what he called them at the beginning up to eternal existence of man on the surface of the earth. In other words man possessed divine ability to excel like God Almighty in all his undertaking.

This awesome image of God and His divine attributes and ability to excel in all ramifications in the dominion activities of man continued in man’s life when they were in the Garden of Eden. It was in this image Adam an Eve could behold the manifestation of the awesome presence of God in the garden and they could fellowship with God, face to face at the cool of the day. This fellowship continued until Adam and Eve blew it in the temptation of Devil when Adam and Eve set aside the commandment of God and in senseless disobedience and distrust they took direction from Satan in the Garden of Eden and they fall spiritually. When God told Adam that consequence of the disobedience was death, perhaps he could neither perceive the meaning of the death nor the scope of destruction that the death will bring upon humanity. From that moment on, degeneration that comes in the accessory package of death that had resulted to so many destructions both physical and spiritual in the life of man began. Apart from physical death, man also died spiritually. The ability of man to function according to the divine capability of the power in the image of God in which he was created became degenerated and diminished. The anointing of fellowship in the presence of God was severed. Man lost a covenant relationship with his Creator. Man lost joy and peace in his environment and began to struggle everyday for his survival amidst crimes, wars, diseases, atrocities and other problems.

When Adam began to reproduce and fill the earth as God had blessed him, he began to reproduce in his own likeness and after his image. “And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.” The point we need to understand here is that if the life of Adam and Eve had not been tainted with sin, their children should have appeared in the same quality image of God just as Adam and Eve had been created. Since the offspring of Adam are product of sinful man, they also possessed the same degenerated sinful physical nature and spiritual image of their parent. After man had lost immortality, the immediate generation of Adam – the Methuselah lived close to 900 years. The average range of lifespan of man today in the 70 years – imagine how degenerated man had become. You will agree that the significant of the degeneration of the physical age is alarming as well as the eventual physical death of man, but that was all the loss that man can measure physically. No one can measure the spiritual abilities that man had eternally lost since then. The anointing of dominion and spiritual nature to relate and fellowship with God was lost. Man lost his bearing since then and did not know how to approach his Creator.

Take a second look at the purpose of creation of man; you will discover an amazing surprise that God did not create man to govern another man. God did not create man in order that we may have various governments that now exist in the world today. All the different system of governments are the devices of man to bring about effective control over mankind and that is why all the devices are not perfect and filled with all kinds of unrighteousness. Even before the creation of woman, God established the ministry of a woman – to be a helper for man. “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” (Genesis 2:18) And after her creation, God brought Eve to Adam. Adam said, “This is now the bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh, she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of man.” (Genesis 2:23) In addition the scripture directly addressed the relationship between man and woman, “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church … Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her…” (Ephesians 5:22-33) in order to reveal clear intentions of God concerning marriage relationship between man and woman. When God establish a relationship among man, he always establishes a working modality within the relationship. In the case of the various governments of the world, whether democracy, communism, anarchy, oligarchy or any type of government, they are human devices to effect control over people. The people that created the system also created the law enforcement agency to enforce the law of the government they enacted upon mankind.

After sin made its evil entrance into the world through Satan, God began to look into the heart of man and see whether someone reflected His divine image and sensitive enough to the things of the spirit. He was looking for people that possess the attributes of godliness, people that will be just, holy, righteous, upright, obedience to the commandment of God. The law of God through Moses, as we have seen in the books of Leviticus, the books of Numbers and Deuteronomy came as a temporary measure to curb the evil of sins until the perfect plan of salvation of mankind will be available through Jesus Christ. In addition the specific divine utterance given unto the prophets were to reveal the inadequacies of mankind so that the sinners can correct their ways. For the laws of God to be righteously implemented, only the just, holy and righteous people with characters like God can truly stand in gap and enforce God’s law. One thing was common to the patriarch fathers and prophets, they are the people that God specifically elevated with power of God and divine anointing to function in the position of leadership to execute the law of God in righteousness, in fairness and under the fear of God. These people are in a sensitive position in because they can not afford to fail God in the responsibilities He committed in to their hands. God looked up unto them to be His representative on earth, to live in holiness, and establish righteousness in the unrighteous world as a demonstration of godly change in the horizon. God had high expectation towards them to live in obedience to demonstrate to the entire world that obedience to the law of God is the basic duty of man.

The divine search light for leadership of God first located Enoch. Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. (Genesis 5:24) God harvested Enoch and took him to heaven as the first product of earthly man that fulfilled the desire of God the never defiled himself with worldliness. God again sought Noah walked with Noah. Noah was described in the Bible as a just man, perfect in his generation. God revealed to Noah the state of affairs of men, how they were filled with violence and informed him of imminent destruction of earth with water. God asked him to build an ark according to the dimensions He gave him, and put male and female of every kind of living creatures into the ark. Noah did according to all that God had commanded him. You will notice a touch of anointing of Almighty God in the activities of Noah. Imagine the divine ability he possess to create an ecology within the ark to create an accommodation for the lion, tiger, wolf, elephants, snakes of different species and all different varieties of animals. God said of Noah, “I have seen that you are righteous before me in this generation.” The flood came according to the word of God, and the sinful world of Noah was destroyed. This was the first model of salvation through which God preserved the people He had chosen as well as the creatures of the earth after the destruction.

The spotlight of leadership shifted upon Abraham the ninth generation of Shem. Abram and his wife Sarai, lived in Ur of Chaldees with their family. God called the newfound leader, Abram. It is quite interesting that God did not establish this new covenant with the already tested Noah.

Now the Lord had said unto Abram, “Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shall be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” (Genesis 12:1-3)

We need to reflect upon the calling Abram. Abram was not under any obligation to honor the calling of God upon his life especially, when he did not have any idea of where God wanted him to go. One of the unique characteristics of the leaders that God elevated is that they always hear the voice of the Heavenly Father. “My sheep hear my voice . . . and they follow me.” (John 10-27) The scope of relationship that God intended to have with Abram was very wide. God did not want to raise Abram in the environment of sinful culture of sinful people. The intention of God was to carve out righteous men out of the unrighteous generation and fence them with his divine presence in order to unfold His blessing upon them. Abram honored the directives of God; he took the giant step of faith. He got out of his country and of his kindred to follow the finger of God to the land of Canaan. There God established His covenant with Abraham and his generation forever. He was the nucleus of the enviable family of God on earth. God paid an awesome interest in the generation of Abraham. God intended to showcase the people of Israel as an example of good over evil that the rest of the inhabitants of the earth have chosen. Israel did not have the type of government that the rest of the world had then, instead they had Almighty God that was overseeing the affairs of His people through the appointed leaders that comprises of priests among the tribe of Levites that led people in worshipping God and in judging them righteously. It was well with the people of God and the Heavenly Father kept His covenants with His people.

Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel and Ramah, and said to him, “Look, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give a king to judge us.” So Samuel prayed to the Lord. And the Lord said to Samuel, “Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me that I should not reign over them. According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt, even to this day – with which they have forsaken Me and served other gods – so they are doing to you also. Now therefore, heed their voice. However, you shall solemnly forewarn them, and show them the behavior of the king who will reign over them. (I Samuel 8:4-9)

It came to a point when the people of God demanded to have king like other nations around them. God warned them of the consequences of the choice, however, they insisted on having king and God appointed Saul son of Kish as king over them. Through out the different stages of transitional leadership in Israel from priesthood to the time of prophets and kings in Israel, you cannot miss the trail of divine touch of God in the leadership of the people of God.

In a secular world today, politics may be the vehicle that brings political leaders to the top of the ladder. It may be your education or your contribution to the society that bring you to the limelight. It may be that God deliberately bless you with a lot of material wealth that shot you up to the top ladder of the world. Certainly something must be the vehicle that God used to bring you to the top but when you get there it is a different ball game. For a purpose in His infinite wisdom He had chosen you out of millions around you to elevate you for an important purpose. The mistake that so many leaders are making today is that, they always think that because their leadership is not clerical in nature, therefore righteousness or fear of God in their activities is relegated to the background. They failed to realize that they do not have to be operating in the pulpit before they can minister righteousness to the people they are ruling upon. No matter how far these leaders have separated the state from the faith in their administration, there is no way they can separate their leadership from being responsible to God Almighty who originated their elevation. God rules in the affairs of man. God will not use any factor that brought you to top as a yardstick to evaluate you. He will evaluate you by the works of your hand whether good or bad and you will as well be rewarded accordingly and also required to give account of your stewardship by the work.

When God says, “I will be with you,” it means the person He appointed will operate in the strength of His power. The eyes of God will be upon such a person in all walk of his life as long as he continues in focusing on his calling and operate in righteousness and obedience to the commandment of God. The person will not walk in darkness; instead he will operate in the light of His presence. The awesome power of the image of the Heavenly God that manifest in various anointing for excellence will be available for him to tap into to dominate the moment. It means whatever man can imagine in his creative ability can be accomplished to dominate the situation because he is operating in the divine image spectrum of Almighty God. But God gave all these divine abilities to achieve one purpose – that he may be just and rule in the fear of God. In one of the last words of David, he said, “The Spirit of the Lord spoke by me, and His word was on my tongue. The God of Israel said, The Rock of Israel spoke to me: He who rules over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God. And he shall be like the light of the morning when the sun rises, a morning without clouds, like the tender grass springing out of the earth, by clear shining after rain.” (II Samuel 23:2-4)

When Adam and Eve fell into sin in Eden, the consequence of the spiritual error was immeasurable. They were not only kicked out of the Garden of Eden, they also lost the fellowship of their Creator. Their lives becomes so deplorable and continue to dwell in that sinful nature unabated. Since then, man had been operating in the fallen nature of wickedness. The scripture made everything clear to anyone that desires to learn. In Genesis 1:26-27, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” After the sin of Adam and Eve, their offspring dropped the glorious image of God. They did not possess the DNA of immaculate image of God as their biological parents have been created. Genesis 5:3 confirmed this. “And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.” (Genesis 5:3)

In this fallen nature, man continue to govern themselves. They appointed kings, they elected presidents and are operating in a forms of government that rightly fit their communities and cultures. But one important thing continue to elude them. They have all discarded the garment of righteousness and have put on the garment of worldliness. Political party affiliations and manifestos determine their mode of leadership. These leaders have to yield to the whims and caprices of the inner caucus. Instead for these leaders to operate under the fear of God, many of them have sold their soul to the Devil in the various Occult memberships they are involved in. They have to satisfy the interest of their financiers that financed their election expenses. An adage says, “He who pays the piper dictates the tune.” In the process of satisfying all these pressure groups, the elected leaders therefore lost their spiritual integrities. They compromised their faith. They employ the principle of compromise in their decision making to ensure that they maintain their popularity objectives.

The outcome of the fallen sinful image of man are—selfishness, self-centeredness, wickedness, pride, greediness, unprecedented corruption, insensitiveness to the cry of the poor, etc Regardless of the outcry of the populace, the leaders always embank on their selfish political agenda. In no doubt, we know that it is not an easy thing to lead multitude of people. That is why righteousness should have been their watchword. That is why uprightness should have been their modality. That is why they should have pitch their tent under the canopy of God for His guidance and direction so that they can be effective leaders that will rule the people with the fear of God in them.

When the scripture admonished us to be praying for our leaders, in 1 Timothy 2:1-2 “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness, the scripture is admonishing us to do ourselves a big favor. These leaders are facing all kinds of pressures, unknowingly they may even yield to the demonic pressure that may possess them in order to rule through them. But with intercessory prayer for these leaders, the merciful hands of God will move to guide them unto righteousness that will bring blessing to the entire populace.
