Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” (Psalm 1:1-3)
Obviously the blessed person that the word of God was describing in the passage above is not just the common popular individual that does certain good things without a purpose. They are unique people that choose to live their lives purposefully in obedience for the glory of God. It should be at the back of our mind that God is not interested in raising common people. In fact, He specializes in raising up unique people for His glory. Looking back in the ministries of the servants of God in the Bible, their common characteristic was that they were all unique in their different unique godly personalities. “Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee.” (Genesis 12:1) Abraham faithfully chose to obey God without questioning when He told him to leave his kindred behind in Ur of Chaldees and go to the place He will point to him. “By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season.” (Hebrew 11:24-25) In amazing loyalty, Ruth, a Moabite purposefully chose to follow her mother-in-law Naomi to Bethlehem after the death of her husband. She said, “Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.” (Ruth 1:16-17)
Every second, over seven billions human beings on earth are making choices. Only few unique children of the Most High God are making unique choices that are pleasant unto God Almighty. The few people that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful chose the unique pathway of righteousness and chose not follow the popular evil crowd of this world. The unique few people who delight in the law of God and meditate therein day and night do not belong to the popular interesting events of the twenty-first century which includes, club houses obscenity life, pornography, alcoholism and drugs usages.
To choose righteousness over evil means that the unique children of God should separate themselves from defilements and sinful practices of the world. This is not popular in this world that tolerates sinful practices. However, the scripture still commands us saying, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” (2 Corinthians 6:14-18)
To delight in the law of God and meditate therein means that the unique children of God develop affection for the word of God as little children desire milk of their mothers. “Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.” (1 Peter 2:2-3 NLT) It means we must seek to learn and truly assimilate the word of God. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom …” (Colossians 3:16) It means we must choose to apply the word of God to all aspects of our lives and daily living in the revelation of the word. “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” “I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.” “And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.” (Psalm 119:11, 15, 47) “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments.” (Psalm 119:105-106)
The scriptures are not silent about the rewards that follow the righteous choices God’s children. After beholding the abundant reward of the blessed, the psalmist proclaimed that this obedient child of God is like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” (Psalm 1:3) It is the desire of our Heavenly Father to bless His faithful and obedient children. He expects that His children, out of love for Him, will live and walk in accordance with the revelation of His Word. Righteousness through obedience and holy living will position us for the blessing of God and pave the way for us to eat the good fruit of the land. “If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.” (Isaiah 1:19 NIV) There are bounties of blessing in the store house of God waiting to be extended to the blessed. The time of life is very precious but there is an ample time available for us to make informed righteous choices.
Prayer: Oh Lord, I am at the crossroad of making important choices and decisions today, I look unto you Heavenly Father, guide me to take righteous steps that are acceptable unto you and will bring glory to your holy name in Jesus name, Amen.
