“Watch” or “beware” is a peculiar warning that is suggesting that we should be vigilant and be fully conscious of whatever we are doing and what is going on around us. People always watch and monitor precious things for the security and safekeeping of the precious item. That is why we have security men and electronic gadgets mounted in strategic positions monitoring every movement to ensure that unauthorized person or criminal activities were not committed to violate the safekeeping of the precious items.
There are so many precious things known to humanity, and the way we quantify their preciousness depends upon our knowledge of those things. Many cannot differentiate between gold nuggets from the ordinary dust of earth. Many cannot differentiate between precious diamond from ordinary pebbles of stones if they are brought close to each other. Yes, diamond may be shining, but someone that was devoid of the knowledge of the precious stone will only consider it as a shining stone. But those who possess the knowledge of these precious gems, can easily recognize and instantly appreciate the qualities wherever they are found. And they will do everything to guard them jealously when they lay their hands on them.
Heaven is a precious place to the believers of Jesus Christ who know and appreciate the value of Heaven. Jesus Christ described Heaven as His Father’s house. “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2) Heaven is also known as the Kingdom of God. The parable of treasure and pearl put it beautifully, “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.” (Matthew 13:44-45)
We have to watch spiritually with our hearts. We must be conscious of the coming King of Heaven. We have to watch with our characters, the works of our hands, our relationship with our Heavenly Father and humanity as a whole. We should watch with our good works trusting that God will bless it and that we will not labor in vain. We should watch-out and ensure that we are not entangled with the affairs of this world that can be a clog in the wheel of our Christian life get ourselves ready to be airborne when Jesus Christ shall appear in rapture. “Therefore, be on the alert—for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning—in case he should come suddenly and find you asleep. “What I say to you I say to all, ‘Be on the alert!” (Mark 13:35-37 NAS)
Prayer: O Lord, teach me how to watch and wait for the Kingdom of God. May I not be forsaken in your kingdom at last in Jesus name, Amen.
