Perhaps we wonder why peaceful people could become violent. Let us consider the possible reasons from the secular point of view before we relate it to the spiritual. In the secular activities, wicked people become violent because they want to unjustly take precious things from innocent people at all cost. In the same manner the innocent ones also become violent because they want to defend and safeguard the precious thing that rightly belongs to them. It is important to state that being violent without weapon should not be misconstrued to mean making provocative statements that can incite others to take the law into their hands in a chaotic manner.
The earth is the extension of the kingdom of God. God intends His own precious peace upon the earth. Righteousness and holiness are expected to be the precious watchwords on earth. Loving kindness and mercy are intended to be the precious virtues among humanity upon earth. But that violent creature, Satan, sneaked into the Garden of Eden, and since then there has been chaos on the surface of the earth. Since then, it has been very difficult for mankind to do the blessed will of God on earth. “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.” Matthew 11:12 It is only the people that will not give an inch to the Devil that will apply spiritual violence to ensure that Godliness of the kingdom of God is maintained on earth.
There are two different kinds of violence that are applied differently. Whatever may be the form of physical violence, it is a complete opposite of peace because it instills fear among people. It destroys both life and properties and tear apart relationships and communities. It sets nations against each other in war and causes wanton destruction. On the other hand, spiritual violence is generally peaceful and quiet because no life and property is destroyed, no relationship is torn apart, no communities and nations are set against each other in war and there is no record of wanton destruction in the hands of individuals who engage in this spiritual strategy.
It is a spiritual violence to live in this world according to the pattern of the Kingdom of God and according to the word of God. It is a spiritual violence to be Holy in this unholy world. The King of the Kingdom of God says, “Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.” (Leviticus 19:2) To love the unlovable according to the word of God is a spiritual violence. Jesus Christ says to all the believers in John 13:34: “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.” The scripture admonishes all believers in the book of Romans 12:18 saying, “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.” To live peaceably with mankind you have to develop a character of shock absorbing. Because whatever may be the level of your tolerance, ungodly people will still step on your toes. Therefore it is a spiritual violence to choose to be peaceful in this chaotic world.
Only by spiritual violence you can fight the battle of your life on your knees in prayer without lifting up a sword against anyone and you will still win the battle. Jehoshaphat sought the face of God on his knees when enemies laid siege against his kingdom, he said, “But now here are men from Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir, whose territory you would not allow Israel to invade when they came from Egypt; so they turned away from them and did not destroy them. See how they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession you gave us as an inheritance. Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” (2 Chronicles 20:10-12) The Lord responded to the prayer of Jehoshaphat, “This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.” (2 Chronicles 20:15 NIV)
God did not fail the people who chose to be peaceful in this chaotic world, He did not fail those who chose to be holy in this unholy world. He did not disappoint Jehoshaphat who relied on Him to fight the battle of his life instead of tearing apart the world around him in physical violence. Let us seek His face for the peace of God in our world. Let us extend the loving hands of fellowship of God to mankind. He will not fail you as you righteously and peacefully operate your Christian life in a quiet and peaceful conquering Christian living and as you prayerfully take the kingdom of God on earth by force from Satan. Remember that the “weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.” (2 Corinthians 10:4)
Prayer: O Lord, endow me with the grace and divine ability to fight my Christian battles victoriously without raising a weapon. Endow me with the spirit of prayer and let me dwell in your peace that passes all understanding. Let holiness and righteousness be my watchword, in Jesus name, Amen.
