Computer Glitch in America

Early Wednesday morning on July 8, 2015, there was breaking news on CNN that a computer glitch grounded United Airlines nationwide. Passengers could not print their boarding passes and the staff resorted to write boarding passes by hand. Departing planes were grounded and for several hours could not take off. This was an unprecedented delay. Crowds of anxious passengers that were scheduled to board the planes were on a long queue, helplessly awaiting a solution to the problems. At about 10:40 a.m. the carrier announced that it was “recovering from the [computer] network connectivity issue.”

As if this was not enough, at 11:32 a.m. on the same day, there was a computer glitch in the New York Stock Exchange that halted the stock exchange trading activities in one of the most highly sophisticated stock exchanges in the whole world. The trading activities of the institution were halted for 3 hours 38 minutes, and at about 3.10 p.m. the trading activities resumed.

These two events which occurred at different industries in United States of America put the nation on edge. In a nation where we have the best aviation industry and where the New York Stock Exchange is the hub of stock exchange market in the world, one may begin to think that, if these scenarios can occur one day, any type of glitch can occur any time without notice. Nothing lasts forever, only the eternity in the presence of the Living God will last forever. However, we thank God that it was not a cyber-attack but the event greatly affected the New York Stock Exchange market that day. God had promised His people that affliction shall not rise up against this nation the second time, in Jesus name, Amen. “… he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.” Nahum 1:9

On the same day, the China stock market plummeted. It was an unprecedented free-fall that made more than 500 China-listed firms announce trading halts, bringing the total number of firms that halted trading of their stocks to around 1,300 firms as at July 8, 2015. These events complemented the financial crisis of Greece that has made the country to become virtually bankrupt. On the same day, the leaders of European nations were still contemplating what to do about the financial crisis of Greece—one of the developed countries of Europe nations.

This should remind us about the word of God in 2 Chronicle 7:13-14 that says, “If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” We may be saying that we are not experiencing drought now in our land, but there is obviously spiritual drought all over the world now. We may say that there are no locust devouring our land, but if we think deeply, we can see that spiritual locust are ravaging the land all over the world. Pestilence that is ravaging the nations of the world does not end in Ebola that had killed about 11,000 people in the West Africa countries. There are other man made pestilence that are ravaging the whole world that are causing wars and rumors of war like Boko Haram in Northern Nigeria and other terror related attacks ravaging so many nations of the world. The continue threat of nuclear proliferation all over the world is scary and it is a pointer that we should run to cling to the Savior.

There is a clarion call to all the people that are called by the name of the Lord—the believers, the Christians—in the passages above to humble themselves, call upon the name of the Lord in prayer and seek His face and finally turn away from their wicked ways. The Lord promised, “He will hear from heaven, forgive their sins and heal their land.” The children of the Most High God that are called by His holy name can put an end to the catalogues of ugly events that are devouring our nations. Let us wake up to our responsibilities and call upon the name of God, let us cry unto Him to deliver our nations. We can do it, and we will do it in Jesus name, Amen.

Prayer: O Lord, let your mercy prevailed, forgive us our sins, grant the sincere heart to turn away from our catalogue of wickedness and in your infinite mercy, Heavenly Father, heal our land, in Jesus name, Amen.
