Quickened People

About two weeks ago before writing on this topic, strange two letters “QP” dropped into my mind.  I pondered about it, and I knew that it was not accidental, but I did not know what it meant.  I also strongly believed that I was being led to something important with these letters.  I could not figure it out immediately from the Bible. I decided to pray about it that the Merciful Father should please reveal the meaning of the two letters to me.  I called my son to find out whether he knew anything relating to the two letters. He told me he had no idea.  I tried to search for the two letters on google, and I discovered that it relates to new computer software.  I said to myself, I am not a computer software developer, and it is unlikely that God would be directing my heart into something like that.  I decided to leave the thought for a while, but it kept coming back to my mind over and over again. At long last, on Saturday July 17, 2021, during the Workers Training Program, my General Superintendent, Pastor W. F. Kumuyi was on his third subtopic titled “When we have companionship of the Spirit,” as he was breaking the bread of life diligently, the letters ‘QP’ became vividly interpreted to me to be an acronym of ‘Quickened People.’ If you have time to listen to the message again you will agree with me on this revelation.

POWERLESSNESS OF UNQUICKENED VESSEL

Beloved, there are so many enhanced energy drinks out there in the market that were manufactured purposely to supplement the energy deficiency of the physically low-energy people in the society.  When physical tiredness sets in, the energy drink replenishes and reinvigorates the drinker. The same analogy is the state of life of the people with spiritually low energy. There are so many spiritual energy drainers out there in the world.  Various worldliness tends to blur the vision of people and thereby lead them to deep their hands into spiritual energy draining sins. Exposure of oneself to various lustful habits consistently de-focuses the sinners and thereby lead them astray to the sins of infidelity that corrupt their spiritual power. Prayerlessness and lack of meditation upon the word of God drains the spiritual abilities of the children of God. When lethargic habits and powerlessness is noticed in the life of a child of God, that is an indication that the divine touch of Holy Spirit is absent in his life. At that point, divine infilling and intervention of spiritual quickening is urgently needed. The person in need of spiritual power has to be in the right standing with God. His heart must be opened unto God in purity and finally, his thirst for the infilling must be evidenced in keen and sincere desire to receive the precious anointing of Holy Spirit.

King David was described as a man after God’s heart. ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ (Act 13:22) Despite his close relationship with the Heavenly King, he still desired prayerfully to be filled and infused with power from above in order to excel in his ministry. In Psalm 119 alone, David sought the face of God in five different verses below pleading for the divine quickening.

My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word. (Psalm 119:25)

Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness. (Psalm 119:40)

Quicken me after thy lovingkindness; so shall I keep the testimony of thy mouth. (Psalm 119:88)

I am afflicted very much: quicken me, O LORD, according unto thy word. (Psalm 119:107)

Consider how I love thy precepts: quicken me, O LORD, according to thy lovingkindness. (Psalm 119:159)

These prayerful requests of King David suggest his dependency on the power of God and the fact that the king never relied on his own personal abilities. As a result, he needed an enhanced spiritual power and divine quickening of the Holy Spirit in order that he might function according to the blessed will of God and excel in his ministry.  The king needed a touch of heaven and God breathed upon him.

POWERFULNESS OF THE QUICKENED VESSEL

When we have companionship with the Spirit of God, we are empowered to do so many things that we cannot ordinarily do on our own little wisdom and physical power. The spirit of God transforms a secular dwarf to a supernatural giant for the glory of God.  Consider the ministry of Noah. Have you ever wondered about the anointing of boat building that God gave him to enhance the understanding and wisdom of the stark illiterate and ancient Noah for the first project of salvation? The wisdom of boat building could only be acquired by the trained, seasoned and college educated engineering student in our sophisticated age.  But God equipped Noah for the assignment of saving his own generation. Noah built the boat according to the specifications of God and the boat was sustained and stood the test of time for the glory of God.

Joshua was called and commissioned to lead the Israelites to the promised land. He walked uprightly before God, and he defeated the thirty-one kingdoms of the Canaanites and divided the covenanted inheritances to the Israelites according to the word of God. Imagine Joshua, an ordinary man, commanding the sun to stand still upon Mount Gibeon and moon on the valley of Ajalon, and the heavenly bodies obeyed the commandment of Joshua. “… he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon. And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies.  So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day. And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.” (Joshua 10:12-14) Only a quickened person can manifest such miraculous deeds in the anointed power of the Spirit of God.

POSITIVE POSSIBILITIES OF THE QUICKENED VESSEL

Our Lord Jesus Christ understood that the divine strengthening needed in the lives of the disciples. The three years of daily teaching and eye witnessing of miraculous manifestations of Christ ministry in the presence of the disciples was not enough for them to excel in their ministries.  When Jesus Christ sent them out to preach the word of God, He equipped them with the unction from above.  “And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.” (Matthew 10:1) “Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.” (Luke 9:1) As if these imparted gifts were not enough, Jesus Christ told the disciples to remain in the city of Jerusalem until they received anointing power of the Spirit of God from above. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49)

To become a quickened person, it means the individual is revived and made alive in a supernatural power of the Spirit of God. The individual becomes supernaturally sensitive to the minute-by-minute impulses of the Holy Spirit. A quickened person is spiritually consecrated. Obedience and yieldedness unto precepts of righteousness and holiness are his watchword. He is equipped by the anointing of Holy Spirit to do the biddings of the Living God for purpose of advancement of the Kingdom of God.

Phillip the Evangelist was a quickened person; he was instructed by the spirit of God. “And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.” (Act 8:26, 29) Paul and Silas were quickened and guided in their ministry. The Spirit of God temporarily constrained and cautioned them not to preach the word of God until an appointed time in the region of Asia. “Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia.” (Act 16:6) Barnabas and Saul were quickened people; they were called and commissioned by the Spirit of God. “As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.” (Acts 13:2) Anyone under the direct control and guardianship of the Holy Spirit, is divinely quickened to function excellently for God’s glory. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. (Romans 8:14)

From the various accounts stated above, it is obvious that God wants to equip His children and work in partnership with us for His glory in the various categories of our ministries.  The question is, are we ready and prepared for the divine quickening of the Spirit of God so that we can become a useful and powerful instrument in God’s hand in this end time ministry for His glory? The patriarchs and the prophets of old were not put to shame in their divine empowerment.  They all excelled and did exploits. The apostles of the first century were not put to shame as well. The good work that the Lord began with them through the quickening power of the Holy Spirit is still manifesting in all the vineyards of God all over the world today.  These faithful leaders became fruitful and excelled in their ministry through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Above all, the spirit of the quickened people do not suffer corruption. Like their Master, Jesus Christ, they will rise from the grave in rapture. … in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” (1 Corinthians 15:52) If we can make ourselves available for the glorious impartation of Holy Spirit, like the patriarchs and the apostles, we will have testimonies of power of God in our ministry.

Prayer: Merciful Father, endow me the grace of being counted worthy in your presence. I humbly plead for your anointing of excellence for my daily activities in your vineyard. Grant me the grace to be productive and fruitful in the ministry that you have committed into my hands in Jesus name, Amen
