One of the important cardinal procedure of health care services is hand cleaning. From the various categories of Medical Doctors, nurses and nursing assistant as team of health care providers, hand cleansing is the number one professional standard required of them. Hand cleansing is primarily required to protect the patient from infections that may inadvertently spread by people. The Centers for Deceases Control and Prevention stated in her website that:
“Clean hands can protect you from serious infections while you are a patient in a healthcare facility. Most germs that cause serious infections in healthcare are spread by people’s actions. Hand hygiene is a great way to prevent infections.”
Hand hygiene is not only benefiting to the patient, it also beneficial to the health care providers because if the health providers are infected as a result of non-compliance to this cardinal procedure, the providers will be infected and perhaps also bring the infections to their families. The infection problem may end up becoming a national tragedy. The surgeons take the issue of cleansing to a new level. The surgeons are required to wash their hands with soap and water and as well as washing and sterilizing all their surgical tools with alcohol before entering the theater in order to ensure that possibility of infection is completely eliminated during the procedure.
As I think more and more about hand cleansing as part of healing procedure, I noticed that the cleansing procedure extends beyond the physical and tangibles into the spiritual. “The people of the city said to Elisha, “Look, our lord, this town is well situated, as you can see, but the water is bad and the land is unproductive.” “Bring me a new bowl,” he said, “and put salt in it.” So they brought it to him. Then he went out to the spring and threw the salt into it, saying, “This is what the Lord says: ‘I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.” And the water has remained pure to this day, according to the word Elisha had spoken.” (2 Kings 2:19-22 NIV)
We need to take into consideration the steps that Prophet Elisha took to solve the problem of the people. He asked for a “new bowl.’ New bowl—symbolizes clean and brand-new acceptable godly characters. “Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.” (Psalm 24:3-5) We can all imagine the standard of spiritual cleansing that God expected of those who are seeking His face.
Prophet Elisha asked for “salt” in the bowl. Salt is an agent of sweetness and seasoning and also preserves the quality of food. This is symbolically indicative that the way of the people needs to be sweet and pleasant to the Heavenly Father. “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6) The faith of the centurion pleased Christ. “But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.” (Matthew 8:8) The faith of the woman with the issue of blood was astounding. “If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.” (Matthew 9:21) The crumb that fell from the Master’s table was sufficient to settle the problem of healing of the daughter of Syro-Phoenician woman. “Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” (Matthew 15:27) Another remarkable attribute of salt is humility. No one can see the physical appearance or color of salt in the food. It does not announce itself that it is the one that makes the soup sweet. The only time anyone can notice the presence of salt in the food is when it is tasted. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time” (1 Peter 5:6)
One important job description of doctors is to treat patients, the process of healing is not in their job description, and no doctor has power to heal any disease. That was why Moses look unto God and prayed concerning the problem of the people. God directed him what to do when the people that were bitten by snake in the wilderness might be healed. “Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.”
In order to bring health to the sick land of Israel, Prophet Elisha who was a Spiritual health provider of his time came to God with the clean bowl of salt in his clean hand and go the source of the water, and pour the salt into the spring of the flowing water and declared in his prophetic utterance saying, “This is what the Lord says: ‘I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.’ If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Perhaps you are under the pain of agonizing physical or spiritual ailment that you are trusting God for healing, begin to undergo the unchanging healing procedure by taking the needful spiritual steps. If you can humble yourself before God, and come to Him with clean heart and mind, and turn away from all your sinful infectious defilement and wicked ways, He had promised that He will heal you and heal your land. Why don’t you humbly submit yourself to God and faithfully believe Him today and experience His miraculous healing wonders?
Prayer: Oh, Merciful Father, I humbly submit myself to your cleansing blood that flow from the Cross of Calvary today. I present my heart, my hands and life for your merciful cleansing flow. Please Heavenly Father, heal me physically and spiritually and according to your word, heal my land in Jesus name, Amen.
