Many things tend to occupy our minds these days especially those things that perishes with time. Position and power especially in the politically saturated environment where everybody has a candidate of their choice. The seasonal sporting events like NFL and Basketball are issues of interest to all sport-loving communities in the nation. Yes everybody are security conscious especially the concern for the terrorist activities all over the world. Lastly the health issue is a national concern especially in the emergence of ebola and Covid-19 pandemic variances. But rest assured we shall not become victim of circumstances of these evil tidings in Jesus name.
We know that it is inevitable not to think about our lives and issues in our community but, here is the word of God concerning our daily thoughts. “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8
,,, whatsoever things are true … The word of God is true and it is the manual of life that is why God commanded Joshua, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (Joshua 1:8) Like Joshua, meditate upon the same word.
… whatsoever things are noble … The faith of the patriarch fathers was noble. They were all listed in the spiritual hall of faith in Hebrew chapter 11. The obedience of the prophets was noble. They stood as intermediaries between God and man to reveal the mind of God to His people. Feed your mind with all these things!
… whatsoever things are just … The judgment of the sin in accordance to the word of God is just, but the mercy of God endures forever. Reflect upon this always in order to deeply appreciate the mystery of the mercy of God that brought sinners to the marvelous light of Jesus Christ.
… whatsoever things are pure … The redemptive blood of Jesus Christ is pure. His blood contains the DNA of Holy Spirit and of man. That was why His blood was so powerful to redeem any type of sin of mankind. Think about this!
… whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report … Heaven is lovely. Prophet Isaiah, Ezekiel and Apostle John visited the place in the realm of the spirit. They gave account that the streets of heaven are made of transparent gold. John revealed that foundations of the city wall of the New Jerusalem were decorated with twelve precious stones. (Revelation 21:19-23) He said the city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. Therefore think on these lovely things.
… if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise … Holiness is virtuous. There is virtue in exhibiting God pleasing faith. There is virtue in praying until there is a breakthrough like Daniel. There is virtue in the tears of Jeremiah because he desired that Israel might return to their first love. There is virtue in the selfless service of Paul who counted all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:8) This is how you can frustrate and prevent the spiritual pollution from creeping in to your mind to paralyze and chain it down into eternal bondage. This is the secret of your victory.
Prayer: O Lord, flood my thought with your loving kindness, your mercy and faithfulness. Make me to be thoughtful of others and feel concern about their salvation. Grant me sincere desire to stand in gap in intercessory prayer for others, in Jesus name, Amen.
