Life has many different stages. At times, things will be smooth and work out smoothly and effortlessly and we feel like a king. At times, things will be a little difficult but when man put all his intellect, determination and ability into it, the difficult issue will succumb to the tremendous power and ability of man and the problem will be overcome and we consider ourselves as a great fighter. But there comes a certain time in life when man will reach the end of the road, and impossibility will open its ugly eyes at man, laugh at man’s inabilities and say unto him, “You are boxed into an impossible corner.” And would further say unto him in a hurtful tone, “You cannot go further than this. Game over.” It is at this point that the power and might of God kicks in, if the affected individual is sensitive to the impulses of Holy Spirit and have access to the last resort of man, which is God of all possibilities.
Abraham and Sarah laughed at the promises of Almighty God that they will be blessed by the fruit of the womb in their old age when Sarah was ninety years old, and Abraham was hundred years old. “And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. (Genesis 18:9-14)
There is a phrase in the conversation of God with Abraham and Sarah. God promised to “return to Abraham and Sarah according to the time of life.” This simply means that God of all possibilities will walk them through all the impossibilities of their old age and return unto Abraham and Sarah their youthful procreative abilities. Perhaps Sarah had reached menopause and perhaps strength of manhood had departed from Abraham, but the God of all possibilities returned to them in their old age so that they were miraculously blessed with the blessing of the womb. Old age pregnancy like that of Sarah in medical term is known as high-risk pregnancy. High-risk pregnancy is usually delivered by cesarean procedures. In the days of Patriarchs, technology of cesarean birth had not been discovered. God granted Sarah strength to carry the pregnancy of baby Isaac and she also had strength to have normal labor birth without cesarean procedure. God walked the old couple through the impossibilities of their lives, and the blessed will of God manifested miracles in the lives of Abraham and Sarah and baby Isaac came to the family of Abraham.
Vicissitudes of life locked Moses, the appointed leader of the Israelites, with about three million newly delivered people of God from the dungeon of slavery of the Egyptians under his charge at the shore of the Red Sea. Suddenly, the finest armed Egyptian army came to pursue the harmless Israelites. There was no escape route for them to run for safety. The people of God were terrified with fear of sudden death at the shore of Red Sea in the hand of Egyptian warriors. Pandemonium filled the camp of the righteous. They were all facing the wall of impossibility before them. In their anger, “They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us into the wilderness to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? Did we not say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone so that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.” But Moses told the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the LORD’s salvation, which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians you see today, you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the Israelites to go forward. And as for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. And I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. Then I will gain honor by means of Pharaoh and all his army and chariots and horsemen. The Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I am honored through Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.” (Exodus 14:11-18) In the infinite mercy and power and might of Almighty God of all possibilities, Moses was walked through all the impossibilities of his leadership mission to the merciful and gracious possibilities of God for His glory. The Red Sea was divided into two according to the divine instructions of God and the people of God walked on the dry ground in the Red Sea to their safety on the other side of the Sea. The enemy, the Egyptian armies that were pursuing them, were all destroyed and perished in the sea. God of all possibilities fought for His people.
In Jeremiah 42:6, Jeremiah, the Prophet of God ascertained, “The word of the LORD came to me, saying: Behold! Hanamel, the son of your uncle Shallum, is coming to you to say, ‘Buy for yourself my field in Anathoth, for you have the right of redemption to buy it.’ Then, as the LORD had said, my cousin Hanamel came to me in the courtyard of the guard and urged me, ‘Please buy my field in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for you own the right of inheritance and redemption. Buy it for yourself.’” Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD. (Jeremiah 32:6-8)
Doubt of impossibilities filled the mind of Jeremiah, the servant of God, and he began to converse and rationalize with God saying, “Yet You, O Lord GOD, have said to me, ‘Buy for yourself the field with silver and call in witnesses, even though the city has been delivered into the hands of the Chaldeans!’” Then the LORD God of all possibilities answers Jeremiah, “Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah: “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too difficult for Me? (Jeremiah 32:25-26) This was indicating that God has a plan that was not revealed to Jeremiah. At last, the city of Jerusalem was delivered into the hands of Chaldeans the enemies of the Israelites. According to the word of God of all possibilities, God granted Jeremiah uncommon favor in the sight of Nebuchadrezzar, king of Babylonian empire, the enemy of the Israelites, when he gave a commandment to his army that no harm should be done unto him. “Now Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon gave charge concerning Jeremiah to Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, saying, Take him, and look well to him, and do him no harm; but do unto him even as he shall say unto thee. So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard sent, and Nebushasban, Rabsaris, and Nergalsharezer, Rabmag, and all the king of Babylon’s princes; Even they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home: so he dwelt among the people. (Jeremiah 39:11-14)
