And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright. (Genesis 25:30-34)

In the olden days, trade by barter was the means of exchange of relatively reasonable value of products in exchange transactions according to the needs of two individuals.  In our days, economic values of products or services is exchanged in terms of money.

There was one particular unwise exchange that made it to the scripture that tends to remind us that we need to be very careful when we want to make transaction. Esau exchanged his birthright for a pot of lentiles.  Esau was a hunter, he could have exchanged one of his game for one pottage of lentiles. Unfortunately, he despised his birthright for unworthy transaction of one meal. He sought with tears he could not retrieve it again. He lost it forever.

In our days some still engage in unwise transactions.  Many people prefer darkness to light.  Many had sold their soul to Satan because of money and wealth. Many like Judas Iscariot had betrayed his Master because of money. Many people like Demas had exchanged their salvation for worldliness. “Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.” (Proverbs 23:29-30) Unwise transaction with wine is still making many a fool.

Beloved, can you pause a bit to review your lives and reconsider all the kinds of transactions you have engaged yourselves in? Perhaps you have engaged yourself in unprofitable spiritual exchange like prostitution or gambling. It is not too late to cut off or cancel all unprofitable spiritual exchange you have made and pitch your tent under the canopy of the wisdom of God. Remember the admonition of Apostle Paul to Romans, I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God,which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:1-2) Your body is the temple of the Living God. Use your wisdom and strength to do the will of God.  Let your renewed mind in the wisdom of God guide you unto spiritual productive and fruitful activities. The Lord will guide you and your life will become profitable physically and spiritually, in Jesus name, Amen.

Prayer: O Lord guide me in the journey of my life. Let me apply my life unto your acceptable wisdom. Let righteous, fruitfulness and profitability in the things of the Spirit be my guiding compass in the choices that I make. Let my endeavors manifest in your acceptable desires in Jesus name, Amen.
