From generation to generation, the principle of fruitfulness had not changed. Among the fruit bearing plants, it is an upright standing and living plants that blossom very well, which is not devoid of natural nutrients that can only bear fruit at the right season. Every branch that bears fruit of the plants always abide with the stem and its fruit abides on the branches until it is ripe. Among humanity, the principle still remain the same, it is the healthy parents that can bring forth healthy offspring. The fetus abides in the womb of the healthy mother for nine months before a strong and healthy baby is born and survive on earth.
In the spiritual fruitfulness, the same principle still applies. Jesus Christ, the Son of Man, and our Creator demanded for the same simple principle that we should abide in Him for our spiritual fruitfulness. He came to this world to redeem us from our sinfulness. He paid the price of our redemption on the Cross. There He died, was buried and on the third day He resurrected from the grave. He ascended to Heaven and right now sitting at the right hand of Almighty God. What other assurance of His ability and authority do will need before we can trust and obey His commandment about abiding in Him?
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” (John 15:4-5,7)
Reading through the passage above is a powerful message for a right thinking believer who appreciates the wealth in the wisdom of the word of God. Perhaps we are yet to get the simple principle of “abide” very well. The acronyms of the word “abide” below will unfold the spiritual understanding of the word unto us.
A – Accept your suffering for My peace. “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
B – Behold My glory in the midst of your turmoil
I – Ignore your disgrace for My amazing grace
D – Depend on Me for your fulfillment and fruitfulness
E – Entrench yourself in the covenant of My eternity
While we are still considering this word, let it be at the back of our mind that spiritual fruitfulness is not only limited to the physical blessings of God alone that we will receive while we are still here on earth. Among other things, it means we shall be profitable materially through the revelation of the blessing in the promises of God. In addition to this, we shall be profitable spiritually according to His revealed promises of eternity. But one important price must be paid by every one of us, “We must abide in Him.” In righteousness we must abide. In holiness we must abide in Him. In faithfulness and in the spirit of supplication and prayer we must abide in Him. The demonstration of our love for Him must also be reflected in our love for humanity. We must not fail in abiding with Him because charity never faileth.
Prayer: O Lord, grant me the grace of partaking in the abundance of blessing of abiding in you in Jesus name, Amen.
