We always hear this phrase in our day-to-day conversation with people. Perhaps we have echoed the same in our expression about a certain experience in our life. Hardly have we ever deeply thought about the phrase. If something does not make sense, it means it cannot be comprehended by human reasoning and logic of the thought of our minds. It is therefore literally nonsensical because it does not conform to logical scrutiny of man. It means the issue is irrational, it is practically confusing, or better still, it is mind blowing. When a situation does not make sense, it implies that the matter is beyond human control. When we get to this point, we arrogantly surrender to our ignorance and say, “I don’t understand,” as if we have right and justified to understand the amazing physical expanse and spiritual complexity of the work of Almighty God.
When the scripture reveals that, “The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods,” (Psalm 24:1-2) certainly this does not make sense to humanity. This statement revealed that the original real estate owner of the planet “Earth” and all the glory therein and the people that dwell in this vast planet belongs to God. This revelation is wider and broader than our imagination because God created the whole universe. All the already known planets and those that are yet to be discovered were all created by God. The Almighty God has been existing before any visible or invisible object existed in this world. That is why His name is Alfa and Omega, the beginning and the very end. “I am the Alpha and the Omega [the Beginning and the End],” says the Lord God, “Who is [existing forever] and Who was [continually existing in the past] and Who is to come, the Almighty [the Omnipotent, the Ruler of all].” (Revelation 1:8 AMP)
The fact that the weight of planet earth, which is 5.97 billion trillion metric tons is suspended on nothing does not make sense, because an object that possesses such a massive weight must be suspended on something before it can stand. It was proved scientifically that Earth with its massive weight is rotating at a speed of 1,037 miles per hour does not make sense. Think about the weight of the volume of oceans all over the earth and the weight of all the infrastructures upon the surface of the earth. How can the planet with such a massive weight be able to rotate at such an unbelievable high speed? The sun, moon and the stars were created by God at the beginning. “And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth.” (Genesis 1:16-17)
Humanity can behold the awesome miracles of God, we can learn about the uncommon ways of God from the scripture, we can understand His nature of holiness and righteousness, and we have experienced His love and mercy that brought salvation to humanity, but it is futility to search for the wisdom and understanding of God. “Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.” (Isaiah 40:28 KJV) We cannot carry out a laboratory research or google for the wisdom and understanding of Almighty God and this is certainly do not make sense.
It did not make sense how God parted the Red Sea into two an made a highway in the sea to save the nation of Israel, the apple of His eyes from the hostility of the Egyptians. “And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left. (Exodus 14:21-22 KJV) It did not make sense how Joshua faithfully and authoritatively spoke to the sun and moon, and commanded them to stand still, saying, “O sun, stand still over Gibeon, O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.” So the sun stood still and the moon stopped until the nation took vengeance upon its enemies.” (Joshua 10:12-13 BSB)
A brief conversation of the Heavenly King with Job in the Book of Job chapters 38 and 39 instantly blew the mind of Job because what he heard from GOD was beyond his understanding. He was immediately become dumbfounded and in humbly surrender he said, “Behold, I am of little importance and contemptible; what can I reply to You? I lay my hand on my mouth. “I have spoken once, but I will not reply again–Indeed, twice [I have answered], and I will add nothing further.” (Job 40:4-5 AMP)
The only thing that truly make sense is the undenied fact, that in our humble surrendered conviction that God is always in control. “This is what the LORD says: “Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. … Has not My hand made all these things? And so they came into being,” declares the LORD. “This is the one I will esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit, who trembles at My word. (Isaiah 66:1-2 BSB) Because Almighty God is firmly in control of the entire universe, He does not sleep nor slumber. King David, the author of the Book of Psalms understood that God is always in control. He said, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” (Psalm 121:1-8)
It does not make sense that the Son of God, Jesus Christ came to this world to die for us, and that His precious blood atoned for the sins of mankind that repents of their sins from generation to generation. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16 KJV) “For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8 BSB) This is why our faith is required to mediate between us and the precious pronouncements of the word of God that we read from the scripture that in our humble submission, we may experience the full benefit of the love and mercy of God even when it seems that it does not make sense.
Prayer: Merciful Father, I pray this day that the wealth of your wisdom that is beyond human understanding will begin to make sense to me. By faith, Heavenly Father, let the mystery of your mercy and loving kindness that brought divinity to humanity in order to launch us into the majesty of your kingdom through the sacrificial work of the Cross may make sense to me so that I can whole-heartedly embrace the precious gift of salvation in Jesus name, Amen.
