Every living creature of God is sustained by one particular thing or the other. The fishes in the ocean cannot survive and thrive on a dry land, they need water always. The plants need some amount of water rich in mineral resources that is absorbed through the its roots. That is why rain is very useful to all the plants. In addition to this, the plants cannot thrive so well without sunlight. With the rays of the sun the leaves of the plant can process the energy in it to produce carbon-dioxide which is one of the important chemical compositions that the plants need so much to grow. In the process, it releases oxygen. The plants do not need oxygen but human beings and animals on the surface of the earth need oxygen to survive. In addition to this, human beings also need various foods that provide them with nutrients to live a healthy life.
When our Lord Jesus Christ was fasting for forty days and nights, Satan came to tempt Him. With the nature of human-being He manifested on earth, obviously our Lord Jesus Christ was very hungry at the end of those forty days. Satan said to Him, “If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.” (Luke 4:3) Although Jesus Christ was hungry, but at the same time, He is the Creator. He created every single creature on the surface of the earth. He also created the angelic beings of which Satan was a part thereof. If Jesus is hungry and desires to transform anything to edible food, it is certainly not going to be at the suggestion or commandment of Satan.
Perhaps we need to remind ourselves that the strategy of Satan in this temptation was that, he knew that food was the alluring bait he used against the first Adam in the Garden of Eden when he said to Eve, “Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:4-5) Eve took the deceptive directive from Satan and she ate the fruit that God commanded them not to eat. The first parent of mankind broke the law of God and devastating judgment of God befell upon humanity. Satan again desired to derail our Lord Jesus Christ from the mission of mercy that will lead to salvation of man that was why he came to tempt Jesus Christ.
Glory be to God because Jesus Christ did not fall for the temptation of Satan. He said to Satan, “It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. (Luke 4:4) God had earlier spoken to Moses in Deuteronomy 8:3, “And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.” Truly wise people had since then been living by the faith they had upon the revelation of the word of God.
God told His children in Isaiah 43:2 “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego remembered this word of God in their trials before King Nebuchadnezzar and they did not yield to worship the idol god of the king. The king commanded that they should be thrown into the fiery burning furnace. Immediately the order of the king was executed, God manifested His presence in the fire. The fire could not burn the hairs of the three servants of God. “Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire.” (Daniel 3:26)
The Lord God Almighty had declared His word in Deuteronomy, His Son Jesus Christ had echoed it when Satan tempted Him. If you live by faith you will not sink in the wicked water of this world and the wicked fire of this world will not burn you. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego stood upon the word of God faithfully, and they were not disappointed. Romans 1:17 says, “For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.” The faithful saints that lived by faith were listed in the Hall of Faith, in the chapter 11 of book of Hebrews in the Bible. “By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned.” (Hebrews 11:29) If you choose to live by faith in the word of God like these three servants of God today, you will not be put to shame. If everything had failed round about you, please try God for He has never failed.
Prayer: O Lord, I pray and plead that you may endow me Your grace to live by faith in the revelation of Your word so that I can be victorious over the temptation and trials of my lives, in Jesus name, Amen.
