Growing up from the farm background, when I was young, we always expressed how big our father’s farms was by the wide stretching of our arms. We did not know how to count in terms of units nor in terms of yearly output bags of corns or number of tuber of yam. We did not know how to measure the size of our father’s farm in terms acres and hectares.
Have you ever wonder what could be the size of our Heavenly Father, Almighty God? Many, I believe, would have thought about it, but the problem for everyone is, “What exactly are we trying to measure in term of size in Almighty God? Are we interested to know about His height, or is it about His weight? Or perhaps those two do not interest us, are we considering the size of His wisdom? Or is it how far He can see or how far His hands can reach? Perhaps we should not even go near that because the scripture told in Isaiah 40:28 which says “Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.” (NLT) Or is it His hands that we want to measure? The scripture reminded us in Deuteronomy 26:8 that “the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terribleness, and with signs, and with wonders.”
Perhaps we are wondering how mighty the hand of God is, the question that Isaiah 40:12 asked us will give us an idea. “Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?” We learnt that Mariana trench the deepest depth of the sea is about 35000 feet deep, and scripture tells us that God measure the depth of the sea in the hollow of his hand. Wao! The mountains are measures in scales. And this include Mount Everest and other high mountains. Think about the scale of God that can measure Mount Everest and other high mountains!
Or are we trying to measure His eyes? The scripture also remind us that, [God is] “Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.” If we can measure the earth and the heaven, maybe we can measure the size of the Living God. But wait a minute, God says, “Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.” (Isaiah 66:1) Which means God sits on His throne in heaven and put his feet on His footstool upon the earth. Perhaps the earth is one of the glorious furniture in His sitting room.
Perhaps it is wise we shelf the idea of measuring the size of our Heavenly Father, because even Job in chapters 38 to 41 could not fathom God’s unparalleled wisdom, immeasurable ability, awesome power, compassion and infinite mercy. Further still, it is better we continue to relish in the grace of His love that He had bestow upon us instead of searching the Unsearchable Almighty God.
Prayer: O Lord, grant me the grace to know you the more and cause me to appreciate your grace, your mercy and your love, in Jesus name, Amen.
