Spiritual Mailbox

In high-rise apartment buildings in New York, at the ground floor entrance, inside in the floor just after the security post, there are personal mailbox for the occupants of the rented apartments in the building. The mailboxes are locked for the security of the important documents in them. On January 20, 2024, I found myself, in a night dream standing in front of mailboxes in a certain apartment.  One by one, people came in and inserted their keys into their respective mailboxes to check their mail. One particular person, that was not known to me, opened his box to retrieve his mails, but the content in his mailbox was already decomposed. Then I wondered and asked myself, what happened? What could have been the reason for his disappointing expectation? I began to consider the dream from the spiritual point of view, I thought, perhaps this individual cried unto God for something, but along the line, he allowed doubt to set in in his heart. Perhaps the person engaged himself in self-management instead of trusting in the Lord. Who knew whether this person sought help from the flesh instead of waiting on the Lord to fulfill His word. I pondered further and ask myself, “What lesson could I learn from this dream?”

In our daily interaction with people around us, one important thing that we need to bear in mind about the content of the mailboxes is the time-sensitivity of the documents. Anyone that insert the key into the mailbox is hoping and expecting to retrieve something from the box. It could be a paycheck for the job he/she had worked for. The expectation could be an invitation to attend a job interview appointment that had been previously applied for, or better still, it could be an employment contract letter that required an immediate resumption. It could be health-related information that needed to be attended to immediately. It could be a pressing bill that needed to be paid instantaneously. Failure to act at the appropriate time may lead to a disastrous situation.

In our faithful fellowship with our Heavenly Father, we have a personal mailbox in the Store House of Heaven that is only accessible to us, and the key to this mailbox is our prayer. Jacob understood this principle, he was expectant. He insisted in his uncommon struggle that he would not leave the man he wrestled with until he blessed him. “And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.” (Genesis 32:24,26) Whatever may be the form of your wrestling in the spiritual journey of life, you must resolve in a high expectation that you will not settle for less until the mercy of God is manifested. Your eyes must be on the prize and eager to lay your hand on the precious blessing promised by the Heavenly Father in His word in your spiritual mailbox.

The word of God said in Hebrews 11:6, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Again, our Heavenly Father said in the book of Psalm, “I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it. (Psalm 81:10) With this two verses in the scripture, an expectation had been established assuring the saints that the blessed will of God will be made manifested when we pray. Just as a farmer trusted in the Lord for harvest, we must trust in the Lord with a high expectation that the blessed will of God will be made manifested in our lives concerning our pressing needs.

Paul knew that he had sown into the Spirit and that he will not reap corruption that was why he boldly told his co-worker in the vineyard of the Lord saying, “… Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do. (Acts 15:36) They had prayerfully sown into the field of evangelism, and they were expecting harvest of glory, that was why they went back with high expectation to see how the brethren were doing with the grace that God had bestowed upon the people.

The definition of faith in Hebrew 11:1 states that, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”  People that pray unto God are the people of faith. People of faith are the people that have expectations of things they have not seen yet.  The people of faith are like farmers that always harvest the product of expectations at the appointed time. By faith, farmers usually plant a sliced yam in the cultivated ground, and in about six months later, they harvest a whole big yam. It is the people of faith that can insert the key of prayer into their personal spiritual mailbox in the store house of Heaven with expectations of receiving the abundant blessings of God.  The scripture admonished us, Proverbs saying, “My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste: So shall the knowledge of [godly] wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.” (Proverbs 24:23-24) The knowledge of the word of God is compared with honey and honeycomb with instruction to seek for it because there is reward therein and our expectation is assuredly certain.  Beloved of the Lord, be wise and trust in the power and the efficacy of the word of God, “For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.” (Proverbs 23:18) Beloved of the Lord, faithfully set the time of fulfillment for your expectation with your prayers.  Your expectation shall become manifestation and your expectation shall not be cut off in Jesus name, Amen.

Oh Lord God Almighty, You are all in all in my life.  You are the reason for my existence, and You are mindful and thoughtful of me. It is your desire to prosper me and give me an expected end, Heavenly Father, when I look unto You and seek Your face in my prayer, please Lord, meet me at the point of my needs and do not let my expectations be cut off in Jesus name, Amen.
