The dictionary meaning for “consulting” is to ask for information or advice from someone who has special knowledge about a particular subject matter. An illustrative example is: Before engaging in a medical procedure, it is advisable that a pregnant woman consults her doctor. Consulting service is very important in every successful business worldwide. The extended use of consulting is to always take into thought the general manual of operation of the magnificent human-machine call ‘man’ for efficient and exceptional performances for the glory of God.

Recently I started a driving lesson. I took time to read the Driving Manual as required by New York Department of Motor Vehicle. I took the driving written test to ascertain that I understand the road signs and driving regulations before a learning permit was issued to me to learn how to drive in the driving schools. One of my experiences with the driving instructor was his insistence that I should stop at every “stop sign” drive slowly, to look left and right to ensure the safety of the pedestrians and other motor traffic and finally my own safety and ensure that I will not be involved in an accident before I proceed to move to my desired direction. He calls this safety consciousness.

As a driver is about to approach a stop, he will put on traffic signal light to inform other road users in advance to indicate the direction he intends to turn to at the junction.  When a driver stops at stop signs, he is consulting the driving manual in his mind before he proceeds to move forward or turns right or left.

This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ (Jeremiah 6:16 NIV) At the crossroad in the life of every human being on earth, there is an invisible stop sign where we are all required to stop.  Before proceeding in every decision making, according to the manual of life, we are expected to take consultation from the Law of God and seek for the righteous path before we make the next forward move. This is God’s recipe for restful and blessing consciousness for mankind. The word of God admonished us in the book of Proverbs, sayingTrust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.” (Proverbs 3:5-8)

Achan made an unguided decision that brought defeat upon a nation and lastly cost him his life and the lives of his household.  Achan said, “When I saw in the plunder a beautiful robe from Babylonia, two hundred shekels of silver and a bar of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver underneath.” (Joshua 5:21) He did not consult on God of righteousness, he did not follow His law, instead he leaned in his own narrow mindedness and evil understanding and followed his sinful heart to covet. He did not reverence nor consult righteousness of God at the crossroad of his decision making. He followed the navigation of his evil mindedness to take a sinful decision. He transgressed the law of God by stealing and concealing an accursed thing into his dwelling place. By this singular action of Achan, he brought sin to the camp of the godly people that resulted to a defeat to the whole nation of Israel. Finally, he brought judgment of destruction upon himself and all his household.

At the point of every decision making, God is waiting and watching to behold your next move that is about to reveal the glory of God in your righteous move. He expects you to stop at the crossroad of your life and consult the law of righteousness in your mind before making your next move. He desired to reward your faithfulness and fully bless your obedience. “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land.” (Isaiah 1:19) On the other hand, the archenemy of man is also waiting and watching to behold your next selfish and wicked move that is about to lead you to transgress the law of God. The desire of this enemy is that you may become part of his inglorious harvest into the hell fire. It is not the desire of God that you fall into the hands of this enemy because there is devastating consequence awaiting those that disobeyed God’s law. That is why He warned us in His word, saying, “But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.” (Isaiah 1:20) We will not rebel against the word of God and we shall not perish with the wicked in Jesus name, Amen.

Prayer: Oh Lord, grant me the grace to be fully conscious of your law and also humility, to obey all the precepts of your righteousness in other that I may partake in the blessedness you earmarked for the righteous in Jesus name, Amen.
