Lesson From Alert Monkey

I had the grace of watching a documentary on the television about a group of monkeys feeding and playing together in the forest recently. Before these animals began to feed, there was a special monkey that always position itself at a strategic place in the forest where it can be watching out for other monkeys and their feeble children that were feeding and playing on the ground and on the low branches of the shrubs in the forest.  This monkey on guard does not eat while others are eating. This monkey will not take a nap while others are feeding because doing so will amount to endangering the lives of other monkeys that trusted in its ‘watch-monkey’ efficiency. When this special monkey that is on guard for others sees any danger in the environment, it will unleash a special sound. The different sound patterns of this monkey represent different levels of looming danger.  The moment the warning alert is unleashed by the monkey on guard, all the monkeys will abandon whatever they are doing and will run for their lives. But as they are running for their lives, they would also carry some of the food they are eating along with them.  They will bring it to the monkey that had been on guard watching out for them. If, peradventure, the alert monkey misses the danger and any of the monkeys is killed, instead of bringing food to the monkey on guard, the rest of the monkeys will beat the careless guard up and seriously wound it.  The scripture passages below will shed light about the importance of the honorable duty of a watchman in evangelism.

But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.” So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. (Ezekiel 33:6-9)

It is an honor to be counted worthy in the hand of Almighty God and to be entrusted with the responsibility of a watchman.  It is also worth it to honorably discharge our responsibilities for the glory of God. As the watch-monkey is in an implied contract to watch for the security of other primates diligently, so also a spiritual watchman is in an implied spiritually appointed contract with God. God expects an excellent performance of the watchman duty because much of the salvation of the souls of mankind is at stake.  To whom much is given much is expected. “… For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required…” (Luke 12:48) The job schedule of a watchman is well tailored in an absolute discipline and faithfulness.  The watchman should be watchful according to the approved will of God not according to his feelings. One fruitful effort of a watchman can open the door of salvation to thousands of souls.  On the other hand, a single careless failure of a watchman can lead a soul to be lost to the world of sinfulness and also result to the ultimate destruction of so many souls in hell fire. That is why the watchman should humble himself before God and fully yield to His instructions.  He must be ready to work with God. If he is fully submitted to working with God, his duty will be easy, and success is guaranteed because it is impossible for God to fail.

The diligent watchman watches with all the resources available unto him. In the days of Noah, he built an Ark of salvation according to the directive of God. He also warned his generation of the looming destruction that will befall them because of their sinfulness. They all laughed at him and suddenly, the judgment of God came upon the wicked.  In the days of Abraham, he faithfully interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah.  He warned the people of the city about the judgment of God, they laughed at him also, but he was able to persuade the family of Lot his cousin to safety.

Literally, some security guard watchmen watch with binoculars. Some watch with available sophisticated technological gadgets. Some watch with wisdom of proverbs like Solomon of old. The scripture did not leave us in darkness about making good use of the available doors that God opened unto us. “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.” (Romans 12:6-8) Alert monkey uses different tempo of warning sounds to warn other monkeys of impending dangers.  In the same vein, spiritual watchmen are expected to watch with their God-given talents for the glory of God. Some watch with their precious treasures having realized that God is the giver of those treasures. Some watch with the anointing of Holy Spirit that God had given them in the way they passionately preach the gospel. In this video link, www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxNZKfGLJ98 you will notice the way the choir warned the sinners with song. With the beautiful sonorous voices of spiritual music ministration, the choir is reaching out to people in order to redirect them back to the feet of Jesus Christ. Modern day spiritual watchmen have expanded their network of watchmen duties. They include short evangelism video clips to warn the world about the devastation of hell fire and encourage them to be born again.  Some artists have created evangelistic animation video and comic books to reach out to the perishing world in order to lead them to the Cross.  Those that are gifted with the ability to write are sounding a note of warning with their creative blogs on the internet to evangelize millions in the web reminding them to prepare for the Judgment Day. Evangelism is everybody’s ministry. All the believers that have tasted the beauty of Jesus Christ are perfectly fit in and equipped for the honorable duty of watchmen in the field of evangelism.  Our merciful Father is counting on us. He said, “Occupy till I come” (Luke 19:13) This is suggesting that we should continue in the ministry of watchmen and warning the erring sinners that are roaming in the darkness of worldliness to come back and reconcile with their Creator. We must be vigilant for the glory of God.

Prayer: Oh Heavenly Father, grant me the grace to live up to my responsibilities of a watchman in your vineyard.  Endow me with the grace and diligence to faithfully warn the erring sinners about the danger of the hell fire. Grant me the faithfulness to intercede for them that your divine intervention may be manifest in their salvation in Jesus name, Amen. Lord let there be fruitfulness in the endeavors of all watchmen in Jesus name, Amen.
