Establishing an appointment is part of our civilized ways of life. We always book an appointment with lawyers on the phone before walk in to see them of legal matters. Although in some cases, one may come to the hospital on emergency basis to seek for emergency medical attention, but most of the time, before you can see medical consultant on a specialized field, you have to book an appointment with the designated medical staff. The plaintiff and the accused have to keep the court’s appointments. The board of directors in the corporate America always hold their meetings by appointment. There is appointed time for the opening and closing of primary schools all over the nation.

There is one thing common about all the earthly appointments. They can be rescheduled as a result of unforeseeable circumstances. For instance, the client who earlier intended to see a lawyer may call off the appointment because of ill health. The consultant may reschedule the appointment of a scheduled patient in order to give room to attend to a more urgent and critical cases. The judge may decide to adjourn a case because one of the parties involved in the case before him was not in court on the said date. The public school may choose to close the school activities due to the media reported severe weather report. Many reasons make man to set up appointment, many reasons also make man to cancel appointments.

But there is an inherent natural appointment that had been scheduled for all human beings. This appointment cannot be canceled, cannot be rescheduled and it is non-negotiable. This unrescheduled appointment is death. “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” (Hebrew 9:27) No one likes this appointment, but it is inevitable. It will surely occur at the appointed time of God. Job knew about this appointment, he said, “For I know that thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.” (Job 30:23)

The nature of all appointment is for a specific purpose. So also is the death appointment which is mainly scheduled by our Creator in order that we may give account of how we have lived our lives unto God Almighty, the Judge of all flesh. Since the scripture revealed that all men shall face the Righteous Judge after our last appointment, we need to ensure that we receive commendation instead of condemnation on that day. Are we prepared and ready to face the Lord? Think deeply beloved. Begin to prepare for this last appointment in righteousness and in holiness today.

Prayer: O Lord, give us the grace to adjust our lives, while we are still living, in order to conform with precepts of your righteousness and holiness so that we shall not be afraid on the day of our death, in Jesus name, Amen.
