Consistency and Commitment

The sum total of well thought plans and systematic excellent execution of those plans can be summarized as a good beginning of a great project. A sound and solid foundation is equally required of any edifice or capital project that is intended to pass the test of time. Initial plans and the execution of a project is good, so also a sound and solid foundation of the project is fantastic but that is not the end of expected human labor and monetary expenditure and sacrifice to bring the project to an enviable standard.

Jugging kicks off the daily physical exercise of a great athlete in the morning. From this set-piece, he will run some miles to tone his body and to keep up his shape. Strictly he will observe the dietary instruction as recommended by his coach to take everything in moderation and according to the strategy he desires in the preparation of the athlete probably if the athlete needs to lose or gain weight. The coach will work on the speed of the athlete and consistently monitor the improvement he gains every day. If the athlete is a boxer, he will need to work with the sparring partners to strategize his offense and defense. Consistency and commitment is required to sharpen both offense and defense strategies of the boxer. Anticipating vigilance is part of the game plan, because the opponent will have to respond to the attack of the boxer. Therefore the boxer will do everything to avoid the voracious attack of the opponent by ducking those deadly blows and those sucker punches.

Were the above the only preparations needed to become a great athlete? Far from that, the boxer will still need to devote time to punch the punching bags, work on his stamina. Developing stamina is not about offense and defense only, it is about the ability to weather the storm of the voracious attacks of the opponent during tournament and still standing on his feet. If the tournament is 12 round-fight, he must be able to fight the opponent with considerable and reasonable strength throughout the period. Beyond physical preparation and monetary expenditure is the sacrifice of time and opportunity cost. But above all consistency and commitment must be his watch word throughout the period of preparation until the moment of the tournament.

Our Christian journey is in a way comparable to the period of preparation of an athlete for a great tournament. There are times that a suggestion drops into our mind telling us to take it easy.  It is good to take things easy.  But certainly, the enemy of our soul is not taking anything easy.  There is temptation here and there.  There are spiritual hindrances lurking around. We cannot take it easy on prayers.  We cannot take it easy in reading the word of God.  We have to be seeking the face of God in season and out season, even when it is not all that convenient.  We have to continue doing good and living an acceptable godly and holy living expected of the children of God. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:1-2) “But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” (Matthew 24:13) If the journey of life had been all that easy and and smooth spiritually, spiritual endurance would not have been needed. Eternity of rest in the presence of God at last, is only meant for the people that are spiritually prepared in faithfulness, righteousness and holiness. Whatever may be the nature of our tenacious preparation as we journey on here on earth, a sincere consistency and faithful commitment in our spiritual life will see us through to His glorious side at last in Jesus name, Amen.

Prayer: O Lord, guide me and strengthen me in the course of my tenacious preparation in my Christian life journey. Empower me Heavenly Father to be fully committed and consistently following your precepts of righteousness and holiness in this journey, in Jesus name, Amen.
