In Search of Nectar

Something always motivates us to do something we may not necessarily love to do.  In the case of the social insects like bee and butterfly, their love for nectar motivates them to visit various  flowers. It is a fact that the brightness of the flowers may attracts these social insects but their main objective is to harvest the sweet liquid at the base of the flower called nectar. Nectar is a sweet and sugary liquid formed by the glands at the base of the petals of a female flower.  Butterflies subsist on the nectar but the bees do more than that. Bees carry the nectar to their hives partly to build their honeycomb and also to nurture and care for their new off-springs that will continue in the colony after them. Invariably, these social insects always labor tirelessly for the benefit of other members of their societies. The nectar that bees harvested from the flowers were further processed by human beings and finally made it to the family dining table as sugar substitute. Further still, while these social insects are searching for nectar from one flower to the other, they unwittingly carry the pollen grains from male flowering plants to pollinate the female flowering plants. After this pollination the fruits of the plant will now developed until it became ripe for the consumption of man.

A commandment went forth from the mouth of the Creator after the creation of man, “And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat.” Genesis 2:15-16 The responsibility to dress and keep our Eden came with its own motivation.  Even if we do not love to dress the earth which is the garden of God and keep it, in the process of pursuing our motivations and in the process of searching for our own ‘nectar’, which may be our own means of sustenance, the type of profession we loved to be identified with and our desired attainments on earth, we are fulfilling the objectives and the purposes of our creation.

Not all of us will become national leaders and all of us will not remain poor and downtrodden subjects for ever. One thing is certain, we all have motivations. Something motivates us to always press towards the goal of the nectar of our choices.  The product of the individual motivation we pursue keeps the soul and body together.  These cluster of motivations intermingle and complement each other to bless humanity according to the ultimate desire of Almighty God about His creatures. That is why not all are teachers and not all are medical doctors. Not all are in the law enforcement agency professions and not all are in the engineering field, but all of us are one way or the other searching for that green nectar called dollar. The scripture affirms this in Ecclesiastes 10:19 saying, “money answereth all things.”

However, the scripture also warned us in 1 Timothy 6:10 that, “The love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”  While you are pursuing your own green nectar or whatever may be the color of the money in your nations, do not make money to become your master. Money is a bad master but a good servant. Pursue the quest of money making legitimately and righteously and ensure that your money remain your servant and never your master. Do not exchange your soul for money that perishes with time. Do not die physically and spiritually because of money. Maintain that righteous limitation towards money to its usage because money does not worth dying for. Set your goal on righteousness and holiness for the glory of God and blessing unto humanity as you are pursuing your own form of nectar.

Prayer: Oh Lord, grant me the grace to pursue all my motivations legitimately and righteously. Let all the nectars that I am pursuing in my life bring God fulfillment to the purpose of my creation. Let it bless humanity and at the same time bring forth glory to your Holy name, in Jesus name, Amen.
