The People of God

If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:13-14)

When we are reflecting about the people of God in this topic, we are talking about humanity—the seed of the woman. They are not from another planet, they are the people with flesh and blood. Our discussion was not about the holy angelic beings that are synonymous with holiness and perfection, but we are reflecting on the issue in order to understand the extent of the grace and supernatural influence that the Lord can bestow upon humanity if only we can yield ourselves to fit in into the criteria of his righteousness, holiness and faithfulness. The scripture denoted His people as a peculiar people, a chosen generation, royal priesthood and a kingdom of priests. They are known as the apple of God’s eye, the redeemed of the Lord and joint heir with Christ. We are talking about the people that are daily yielding to the perfection that God demanded from all His children. “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” (Matthew 5:48)

The people of God are the individuals or collection of people that are purchased with the blood of Jesus Christ and daily yielding to the grace of salvation. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” (John 1:12) They are the people that separated themselves from the world and consecrated unto God so that they can totally cling unto Him. “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” (2 Corinthians 6:17-18) People that have clean hands and pure hearts. “He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart …” Psalm 24:4 People that their ways of life reflect the glory of God, their characters identified with God and their deeds are acceptable before God. “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:1-2)

They are people that are mindful of His mercy and righteousness; they are people that have influence with God like Abraham, the friend of God. “And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein? That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.” (Genesis 18:23-26) Because of his influence and his closeness with God he was able to stand in gap and interceded for the two cities, Sodom and Gomorrah that were slated for destruction.

When these people talk to God on any issue, the Lord listens to their pleas. They are the people that can remind God about His word and His covenants and humbly demand confirmation of them with signs and wonders. When they cry unto God, the Heavenly Father dispatches His angel to bring answer to their petitions. Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.” (Daniel 10:12) They are the people whom God answers their prayers with fire like Elijah the Tishbite (1 King 18:38) and King Solomon (2 Chronicles 7:1) They are the people like Joshua of old that stopped the course of the movement of the sun and moon in their galaxies as answer to their desires. Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon. And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed …” (Joshua 10:12-13) Even the dry bones heard and responded to their prophetic utterances. (Ezekiel 37) None of their words fall to the ground. “And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.” (1 Samuel 3:19) They are the people that can transform and reshape our world by their powerful utterances. These people are spiritually and supernaturally powerful than any president of the most powerful nation of the world. God is ready to honor you as His people and you can become a voice of appeal unto God and a voice of salvation for the perishing world. Go through the gate of salvation this day and enroll as one of the people of God!

Prayer: O Lord, prepare me to be one of your people. Take me from the company of chicken and enroll me in the company of eagle that will soar high up for your glory. Make me one of your powerful instruments and giant of faith for this end time ministry in Jesus name, Amen.
