“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” (1 Peter 2:24)”

TEXT: Luke 5:12-26; 6:17-19; 8:43-48; 13:10-17

One of the major problems of mankind is sickness. Because of its unfortunate popularity among man, sickness had so many names. Some call it a disease, or an infirmity, ailment etc. Whatever name or whatever form a disease is manifesting in the body of mankind, it is to the disadvantage of man. It manifests in pain in the body, generally slows us down, weakens our physical body and at the same time weakens our spirit, engineer all kinds of distractions in our lives, forces man to spend his time and his scarce resources to treat the sickness. Most of the time all these efforts may not yeild positive result as to healing. If anything comes through the help of medical efforts, it is only the suppression of the ailment for a while.

That is why people always scramble for anything that provides them with a good health. Herb medication is billion dollars business in United States today because it is thought to provide medical treatment without side-effects. We always hear phrases like, “have you taken your vitamins? As if vitamins provides healing. Have you seen your doctor? As if doctor brings about healing. Brethren this is not to undermine the great work of the medical providers to the societies. In fact doff my hat to the people in the profession because it takes a lot of efforts to earn a medical license to practice in this country. In addition, this is not suggesting that you should not visit the medical doctor, and also not suggesting that you should not use medication when needed, but this is to point us to something important that we should not lose sight about. Medical Doctors treat ailments, most of the medications suppress sickness, but only God has power to permanently heal our diseases.

Up till now man cannot fathom the reason why we are encountering diseases. Most of the time we trace the sickness to genetic reasons, or virus, or environmental factors. We lose sight that at the beginning before man dipped his hands to sinfulness, man was not battling with sicknesses. Satan lured man with temptation in the Garden of Eden and caused him to derail spiritually. When sin entered into the life of mankind, his perfect DNA became infected with the consequence of sinfulness. The consequence of his sin manifested in all kinds of diseases that leads to both spiritual and physical death that man is facing today. Brethren, I have a good news for you today, the Savior is here to forgive us all our sins and heal all our infirmities. 1 John 3:8b “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” In John 10:10, Jesus Christ said, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

In verse 12 Jesus Christ was in a certain a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy. The lepers in the old Israel do not dwell in the city. Even in our own time, the lepers dwell in the isolation of leper’s colony because their disease is infectious. The question is, what was this leper doing in the city where Jesus Christ saw him? People who dwell in isolation do not always hear good news. This is a food for thought. There are many people who had made colony of sorrow for themselves. There are many that are perpetually dwelling in the valley of their own pity. They do not know or have idea of how they can get a help. But this leper had an opportunity. He heard that the Healer in the Person of Jesus Christ was passing by. By faith he left the colony of his sorrow and disease in order to seek Jesus Christ for healing.

In verse 14, Jesus Christ out of compassion reached out His hand and touched the leper and say be thou clean. Our Lord is still healing the sick. The Lord will reach out and touch you, and make a pronouncement of healing upon you today if you can faithfully come to Him baring your heart unto Him and sincerely desire for His divine healing in Jesus name.

The scenario in the second sub-topic is different from the first. In the first, we see the demonstration of the faith of the leper that sought the face of God. In the second case, in verse 18-19, the man with palsy was completely helpless. Perhaps he did not know where he was been taken to. But he was surrounded with faithful friends who are believers. These believers employed their faith in doing something unusual to ensure that the helpless sick man was brought to the presence of the Savior. The roof of the auditorium where Jesus was preaching was dismantled so that they let the man with palsy down into the presence of Jesus Christ.

Every one of us we have friends and perhaps some of them need help but are helpless. Perhaps they do not know their left from their right spiritually. It is not by accident that we come across these types of people in the journey of their lives. It is for a moment like this when the Lord expect you to make a difference by doing something unusual in their lives that can lead them to receive their healing.

How did Jesus heal this man? In verse 20, Jesus did not reach out his hand and touch the man with palsy, he said, “Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.” Wait a minute! If Medical doctor is to treat this man, he will first of all ask for the type of insurance he has. Then after this asked for the history of his disease. He would order that his blood to be tested, request for MRI test and perhaps CAT scan and some other lab test before he decides to recommend medication. But Jesus Christ who know the point of control to our uncontrollable situation pressed the right spiritual button of his life. He said, thy sins are forgiven thee. That was the root of the problem of the man with palsy. He was not only cured of his physical diseases, he was also cure of his sinful spiritual sicknesses.

In the passage we just read the woman with the issue of blood was very desperate for healing. And as a result, she did something unusual. In verse 44, of the passage above, it was reported that she touched the border of Christ’s garment and she was made whole. There is something in her heart before she touched the border of our Lord Jesus garment. In Matthew 9:21 “For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.” She exhibited the God pleasing type of faith that Hebrew 11:6 mentioned and she received her healing. You can touch Jesus Christ with your situation this day, you will never remain the same, in Jesus name.

Two important steps determine the success and victory they received in their healing endeavors. They have opportunity to hear about the important spiritual information relating to salvation and healing, and they immediately applied faith and pursed the blessing of healing and forgiveness from the Savior with all seriousness of heart.

The same word of life has come to you today, with expectation that you will hold it dear in your heart and move with it by faith. Our faithful Father will honor His word as you apply faith to receive His blessing in Jesus name.

Isaiah 53:4-5 says, “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” The Lord is saying this day, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) Come unto Christ this day. Come the way you are. Come with your friends, your neighbors and your co-workers. He will meet you at the point of your desperate needs. He will heal you physically and spiritually. Come, He is patiently waiting for you!

Lord God our Healer, heal all our hindering and debilitating diseases in Jesus name, Amen.
